And so it has come to this. In an effort to find someone who had more experience at losing basketball games than the Cleveland Cavaliers this season, someone who might have wisdom to pass along, the Cleveland Plain Dealer turned to the losingest basketball coach ever.
Red Klotz. The man behind the Washington Generals. The seemingly hapless patsies to the Harlem Globetrotters.
Lost 13 in a row, 23 of 24? Ha. That’s a two-week tour through the Midwest. Try 10,000 in a row or so. Nobody was counting anymore, but that’s the estimate.
But one day, the Generals did win.
His advice: Positive thinking.
“Positive thinking,” Klotz said. “When you go out there, you go out there to show them how good you are and how good the team will be. When you walk off that court, you have nothing to be ashamed of.”
It’s not much. But with the talent on the Cavaliers roster, it’s about the only option. They can’t keep losing forever. Even if it did feel like the Lakers did everything but the bucket of water gag.
