If he wasn’t Metta World Peace, he’d be Queensbridge

What would we do without Ron Artest, er, Metta World Peace to lighten the mood.

Amidst the ultimatums and likely refusal by players to accept that deal, World Peace went on the Dan Patrick Show Friday and when the host asked him if he had a backup name in mind if his name change had not panned out as planned this summer, he said yes:

As in the neighborhood in Queens where he grew up. Rough neighborhood, too. But ya gotta represent.

I’d say this was out of character, except it’s not.

Ron Artest rapping about Queens and the Mets. Does it get any better than this? (via our sister blog Hardball Talk)

For the rap impaired, here are some lyrics:

I’m Ron Artest, gettin’ crazy as it gets,
Flying ’round in jets, rappin’ ’bout the Mets,
Born in Queens, raised in Shea,
Grabbin’ a shake shack with my man Jason Bay,
Win some, lose some, the Mets dun dun,
We just tell ourselves success is a nuisance,
I got a ring, no need to be cranky,
Mets need 25 more to tie the Los Los Yankees.
