Goodman League All-Stars v The Melo League

That’s cold: ‘Melo has two cell phones stolen at Melo league game

The Melo League bares the name of Carmelo Anthony — he helped pay for the youth center in Baltimore that among many things hosts the summer pro-am league of some renowned.

The same league that just took on and beat the Goodman League in a showdown. Which makes this report a little cold hearted.

‘Melo had two cell phones stolen at the ‘Melo League game, according to the New York Post.

Anthony’s two cellphones were stolen by an unidentified attendee after the competition. “Fans bum-rushed the court to get close to the guys after the game,” a source told Page Six. “Carmelo’s phones were stolen during all of the chaos.” Fans on Twitter caught wind of the missing phones and tweeted to help him find them. But a rep said they have not been returned to Anthony, who played alongside the Miami Heat’s LeBron James at the charity event at Morgan State University.

Sure, Anthony can afford a couple more cell phones (many NBA players have two, keeping business and personal separate). But man, that is just cold people. Cold.

They put on a real show in Baltimore Tuesday night.

Kevin Durant one-on-one with LeBron James. Carmelo Anthony looking healthy. Eric Bledsoe flying through the air. Josh Selby showing us he can flat out sky. It was so much that the one video highlight package we brought you wasn’t enough. So here is another via Hoopsmixtape.com (via The Basketball Jones).

One thing that leaps out at me from these highlights — Durant’s handles have gotten better this summer. That and Selby can fly.

Carmelo Anthony’s elbow looks, feels good. Finally.

Carmelo Anthony played through an inflamed elbow — officially chronic bursitis — during the end of last season and through the playoffs. It showed as ‘Melo shot just 37.5 percent in the Knicks one playoff series, well off the 46.4 percent he shot for the Nuggets the previous playoff run.

That elbow kept him from working out or playing in too many games this summer.

Then he showed up to play for the Melo League in its showdown with the Goodman League in Baltimore. And he looked good, dropping in either 27 or 36 points, depending on whose scorekeeping you wish to listen to (the official scorekeeping at these pro-am games borders on nonexistent). Either way, he looked healthy and told that to the New York Post.

“I’m back like I never missed a game,” the Knicks star said last night….

“This is my first time coming out and actually playing [this summer],” Anthony said. “I wanted to bring LeBron out here to actually enjoy the atmosphere . . . there’s nothing like it.”

If he’s back healthy, that is a big thing for the Knicks offense as they head into next season (whenever that is). He with Amar’e Stoudemire provides a wicked amount of firepower and create serious matchup issues.

The bigger question for the Knicks success, however, is how Mike Woodson gets ‘Melo and teammates to play defense.

‘Melo, Bosh to appear on “Law & Order: SVU” this fall

Carmelo Anthony

There are times the written word is inadequate. This post really needs to start with that Law & Order “doing doing” sound. You know, this one. Yea. Just pretend that this first paragraph was only that noise.

Finally Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Richard Belzer and Ice-T in the same place. I know we’ve all been waiting for that.

Anthony and Bosh will appear in cameos as themselves in a basketball-themed episode of NBC’s “Law & Order: SVU” this season, according to TVGuide.com (via CBS’ Eye on Basketball).

Insert your own jokes about Mariska Hargitay being needed to search for LeBron James’ game once the fourth quarter starts, that’s not what the episode is about.

Anthony and fellow NBA star Chris Bosh of the Miami Heat will each make cameo appearances in the opening scene and the episode’s climax. The episode, titled “Personal Fouls,” focuses on a youth basketball coach (The Wonder Years’Dan Lauria) who is suspected of being a sexual predator.

The episode is slated to air Sept. 28, right about when both men are set to take the court during training camp. Yea, right. Let’s just hope they are on the court before this episode ends up in summer repeats.

We bring you this with little comment. Because we have no idea what to say.

Carmelo Anthony is in China right now as part of a Nike/Jordan Brand promotional tour. He then sent out this tweet Thursday morning (stateside time):

And the picture below was attached. Enjoy.
