Let the silliness begin — Phil Jackson to the Knicks rumors

I would have thought this should have taken a week or so. I should have known better.

The New York Post is reporting that the Knicks might have Phil Jackson as their coach in 2012.

According to an NBA source, Jackson is definitely through with the Lakers, but would not rule out him coaching again in the NBA.

“If the right situation presented itself, he would have to consider it,” the league source said.

The Knicks could be the right situation in 2012, even if they are not on the verge of adding a third star in Chris Paul to go along with Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire.

It should be noted — if you didn’t know this — that Jackson is a former Knicks forward who was part of their early 1970s title teams. He has flirted with returning to coach there before.

Not. Going. To. Happen.

Phil Jackson is tired of coaching, of the grind and the travel, and he is not the kind of guy who after one year off will feel the need to sleep in hotel beds and eat bad food on airplanes again.

What’s more — the Knicks and Madison Square Garden represent a pure, glory days memory for him. To come back there and coach — to deal with the overreaction to losses, the pit bull media — would sully those memories. He will not do this.

He is not going to ever coach the Knicks. But you can bet the speculation will not die, either.
