Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant

Dwight Howard missing Lakers game with strained knee

The last time Dwight Howard played the Lakers, he and Kobe Bryant got into on the court. Howard said he wanted to move on, but everyone else wanted to see the stars continue to challenge each other.

Unfortunately, we won’t get that chance when the Rockets host the Lakers tonight.

The Rockets have fared much worse offensively and defensively with Howard off the court this season, and their starting lineup tonight had played just one minute together entering the game.

Even against a dismal Lakers team, Houston will have its work cut out for it without Howard.

PBT Extra: Is Dwight Howard NBA’s newest villain?

Dwight Howard

For a guy who plays with a smile on his face, who is arguably the game’s best center, who loves the game, who is great in the community for teams, Dwight Howard has a lot of haters.

In the last few days Kevin Durant had some choice words for Howard and Hall of Famer Gary Payton said other players don’t really want to play with Howard.

In this latest PBT Extra Jenna Corrado and I talk about the perceptions of Howard, does everyone feel he’s a villain (no) and what he has to do to change that perception. As always with American sports, the answer is win rings. Not that it should be the answer, but it is.

Dwight Howard’s attorney: Claims Rockets’ star abused his child baseless

Minnesota Timberwolves v Houston Rockets

Dwight Howard remains in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Not long after an investigation as to whether Howard abused his son in Florida were dropped, Cobb County Police in Georgia have re-opened an investigation from this summer into Howard’s alleged abuse of a child, NBC News learned.

Police said that investigation was re-opened based on new evidence, however Howard’s attorney David Oscar Markus dismissed that idea saying this was the same thing the Florida investigators looked into and found nothing.

Markus released this statement, via the USA Today.

“The Florida Department of Children and Families thoroughly examined all of the evidence and determined that the claims of child abuse were not substantiated. The case was closed in September.

“(The child’s mother) Royce Reed is now shopping her baseless allegations to authorities in Georgia after the Florida DCF case was closed. Even though the allegations have already been found to have no merit, when a complaint about the welfare of a child is made to law enforcement, an investigation is commenced. We are confident the Georgia authorities will reach the same conclusion as the Florida authorities. The truth is on our side.

“It is appalling to see a mother use her son as a pawn against his father in attempt to extract money, which is what is happening in this case. While Royce Reed continues on her aimless quest with the media, Dwight Howard will continue to act in the best interest of his children and do whatever is necessary to protect them.”

Florida investigators dismissed the charges despite the fact a doctor found it appeared the NBA star’s son was struck multiple times with the buckle end of a belt and that the injuries reached the level of abuse. Howard admitted to police he hit his son with a belt, saying he didn’t know it was wrong because that is how he was raised.
