UPDATE 7:28 pm: Kevin Durant will start for the Thunder against the Hawks Friday. He did not miss a game.

Recently twisted ankles, where things are a little more loose, are the most likely to be quickly re-injured. Hopefully Durant can get through this uninjured and playing at his usual level.

3: 44 pm: Kevin Durant went through shootaround on Friday with the Thunder and is now officially a game-time decision, according to Royce Young at Daily Thunder.

Durant left the Thunder game Wednesday night after turning his ankle pretty severely in the third quarter. While he called it a “tweak” he left the arena that night wearing a protective boot on his ankle and smart money said he might miss a game or two.

But, apparently he is young and heals fast. We know he is a competitor. The Thunder take on the Hawks Friday night. We’ll give you an update close to game time on this one.

Kevin Durant says he can go Friday for the Thunder against the Hawks. Coach Scott Brooks called him doubtful after Durant sat out practice Thursday.

Take the coach in this one.

Nothing has been decided, according to the Oklahoman, and Durant was walking around practice without a protective boot. But as he is the franchise expect the team to error on the side of caution.

“But you never know,” Brooks said. “We’ll see how he feels overnight and we’ll go from there. He’s a competitive guy like we all are. He doesn’t like to miss games, but we’re going to do what’s best for Kevin….”

“It’s not in my hands,” Durant said, leaving the decision to the team’s medical staff. “As of right now, I want to play. I think I can play. If we started a game right now I could play.”

James Harden would start if Durant sits, Brooks also said.

If he only misses one game, after how bad the injury looked when it happened Wednesday night, that is a win for the Thunder. The injury occurred when Durant tried to drive around Indiana’s Tyler Hansbrough and stepped on Hansbrough’s foot, causing his ankle to w. He stayed in to shoot his free throws then left the game.

UPDATE 11:41 pm: Durant left the arena wearing a protective boot on his ankle, but that was primarily for precautionary reasons and he said the injury was not that serious, according Darnell Mayberry of the Oklahoman.

“Just a little tweak,” he said. “I did it before. Just gotta see how I feel in the morning.”

Durant said he hopes to play Friday in Atlanta for the Thunder. You can bet there will be plenty more medical tests before that happens.

10:54 pm: Kevin Durant — the NBA’s leading scorer at 28.5 per game and current Golden Boy, in case you forgot — turned his ankle badly Wednesday night, forcing him out of the game against the Pacers. He did not return.

There is no word yet on the severity of the injury, but watch the video, it’s not good. That looks like the kind of ankle sprain that has you missing a few games at first glance.

With 2:44 left in the third quarter Durant tried to drive from the left elbow area and Indiana’s Tyler Hansbrough slid over to cover him. Durant stepped on Hansbrough’s foot and twisted his ankle. He stayed in to shoot his free throws then left the game.

Two trainers had to help Durant to the locker room, but we await word still on the severity of the injury.

Clearly, any lengthy injury to Durant would severely hurt the Thunder as they try to ramp up heading into a playoff stretch drive.

The Thunder were up 21 at the time of the injury and went on to win 113-89.
