Bad news for Jeff Pendergraph, more bad news for the Portland Trail Blazers at center.
The injury happened at the start of the second quarter of a preseason game Thursday night against Memphis when Kyrylo Fesenko drove on him and there was contact. It was bad enough at the time that Pendergraph had to be taken off the floor on a wheelchair because he could not put weight on it.
The Blazers now have Greg Oden, Joel Pryzbilla and Pendergraph under contract but none can play right now. Blazers coach Nate McMillan said after the game last night the team may need to go out and get another big man, at least through the end of training camp. However, Erick Dampier is not in their plans, according to reports.
This means your starting Blazers front line is Marcus Camby and LaMarcus Aldridge, with Dante Cunningham and rookie Luke Babbitt behind them. As often is the case with the impact of injuries, it’s not the backup, it’s the backups backup where the drop-off is felt.
