Acie Law signs to play in Serbia with no opt-out clause

Acie Law is headed to Serbia, and he is not coming back, reports ESPN’s Ric Bucher.

Point guard Acie Law has signed a one-year, $500,000 deal with the Serbian team Partizan, according to his agent, Mark Bartlestein. The deal does not have an out clause that would allow Law to return to the NBA should the current lockout end.

Law was a free agent, he did not need to get clearance to sign overseas. Last season he started with the Warriors but was traded to Memphis. He didn’t play a whole lot either place.

It’s not a rich contract as hoops deals go but it insures he gets a payday while the league is locked out. Law has played for four teams in his four seasons and he was not going to make much more than that in the NBA if he even made a team.

For some guys signing in Europe is a threat, but for guys like Law it’s just a smart move.

Duncan leaves game with injury but returns

It looked scary — Tim Duncan down on the court in pain, grabbing his knee.

Fortunately, it turned out to be nothing serious.

In the second quarter Duncan was setting a pick on Golden State’s Acie Law, started to move to roll to the basket and his knee seemed to buckle under him. He was on the floor then went straight to the locker room. The Spurs officially called it a “hyperflexed left knee.”

Which couldn’t have been too bad because Duncan came out and started the third quarter. He went on to play what seemed like slightly reduced but not dramatically minutes in the second half. In the 10 games prior to this one Duncan averaged 30.9 minutes per game.

Stephen Curry could be out a while after fourth ankle sprain this season

Golden State Warriors' Stephen Curry

The whole play looked pretty innocent, with Stephen Curry out at the three-point line on the right side looking to make a play when he stopped and called time out.

A few minutes later he was being helped to the locker room. He left he arena that night wearing a protective boot.

Curry has sprained his right ankle four times this season (at least), the second quarter of the Warriors loss to the Spurs was just the latest one. The first was late in the preseason and it has been an ongoing issue ever since. Postgame X-rays showed no fracture, according to Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle.

That’s the good news. The bad news is this ankle needs to rest — once sprained it is easy to sprain it again if it does not fully heal — and Simmons suggests it could be a while before it is right. Curry is likely going to miss some time. How much is hard to say but at this point rushing back doesn’t seem wise.

The Warriors are expected to sign Acie Law today to provide depth at point guard, according to the Chronicle. Law was let go by Memphis recently. This also will mean more minutes for Reggie Williams in the back court as well, he dropped 31 on the Spurs, but he is not a point guard.
