Things got a little tense on the set of Inside the NBA on Thursday, as Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley stood across a chasm from each other yelling about LeBron James.
The discussion centered around LeBron’s recent public comments about the Cleveland Cavaliers needing a playmaker. That was something that Barkley felt was ridiculous, given they had just won the championship over the Golden State Warriors in 2016.
Shaq, meanwhile, went hard on Barkley saying, “You know nothing about going back-to-back.”
The discussion evolved from there, and both guys have a good point.
Still, Kenny Smith came in with the most reasonable comment: that the Cavaliers did need several factors to beat the Warriors including a hobbled Stephen Curry, a suspended Draymond Green, and an absent Andrew Bogut just to stage one of the greatest comebacks in sports history. Looking at the Warriors now, who have added Kevin Durant, why not add to the roster?
LeBron’s outward comments were purposeful, if a little ridiculous. All that’s left is to see whether Cleveland makes a move at the deadline.
