Celtics get first win since Rondo’s return by beating Magic

Rajon Rondo returned to the Celtics lineup Jan. 17 from an ACL injury that prematurely ended his 2012-13 season.

Boston’s only win since then, however, had been one against the Wizards that came on Jan. 22, in a game where Rondo was held out on the second night of a back-to-back as a precaution.

That changed on Sunday, where Rondo got his first win of the season, and did so by playing near the level we’re accustomed to seeing. He finished with 19 points, 10 assists and six rebounds in the 96-89 victory over the Magic, and even had one of his patented fake-the-behind-the-back-pass highlights to round out the performance.

Rondo was 9-of-11 from the field, and did all of his damage in just 27 minutes of action.

It’s worth noting that Orlando is the league’s worst road team at just 3-22 to this point in the season, and they were within two points with 2:30 to play. But Rondo was the difference, hitting a mid-range jumper before assisting on three of his team’s final four baskets that closed the game out.

It’s hard to find a new low for defense in an NBA All-Star Game.

But Stephen Curry was laying down on defense. Literally.

The result was a Giannis Antetokounmpo dunk and Curry ending up in the highlight anyway.
