Lamar Odom

Lamar Odom remains a legitimate possibility for the Clippers

It’s been a rough couple of seasons for Lamar Odom, both on and off the court.

The troubled but versatile player has remained unsigned this season after dealing with personal struggles that involved reported drug use, but teams will always give players a multitude of chances if they believe help on the court is something that they can provide.

Odom has been working out in Rhode Island with a noted NBA player trainer in hopes of making his return, and if that opportunity should arise, the Clippers remain the place where that comeback is most likely to materialize.

The Clippers remain interested in signing Lamar Odom as part of searching for a roster move as an additional insurance policy for the playoffs, with Doc Rivers telling he is “hoping things work out” between the team and Odom. …

“I’m hoping if things work out, yeah,” Rivers said Friday at Sleep Train Arena, where the Clippers beat the Kings 104-98. “But I just don’t know. I know there’s other teams involved, I think. I honestly haven’t focused on it a lot. But he’s somebody that I’ve always liked, and I like him more now after hearing from Phil Jackson to Vinny to all the players the type of guy he is in the locker room. When I hear that stuff, without saying exactly what I heard, you want him in your locker room.” …

“We’re looking, but it’s not a desperate look right now,” Rivers told “I do think we need one more player. It could be a big. It could be another point guard, just to have a third backup for the season. But I don’t tend to make moves that’ll make you stronger during the regular season, because then in the playoffs you shorten your rotation and that was a wasted move most of the time.”

Los Angeles could use Odom if he’s able to return to form, and Rivers is kidding himself if he believes the need for his team is at the point guard position, where the All-World Chris Paul is averaging 19 points and 12.2 assists per game in 35 minutes per contest.

A frontcourt player with Odom’s skill set is exactly what the Clippers need, but only if his mind is right and his body is once again in NBA game shape. Rivers won’t hurry his decision on whether or not to bring Odom back, but by all accounts it’s a reunion that appears to be on the horizon.

If you’re a Knicks fan, the positive is that at least Kristaps Porzingis tried to make a play.

But he was not going to stop the athletic Bradley Beal with a full head of steam, and the result was a Beal dunking over Porzingis as he tries to block the attempt.

Beal wasn’t sharp, scoring 12 points on 5-of-14 shooting. The Knicks has an efficient Carmelo Anthony and that got them the win.
