New York Knicks forward Stoudemire shares a laugh with teammate and guard Smith after he entered their NBA game with the Portland Trail Blazers during the second quarter in New York

Stoudemire to pass up working with Olajuwon for more rest

What the New York Knicks need more of from Amar’e Stoudemire is minutes.

It’s not a matter of adding moves or revamping some part of his game, it’s getting on the court — he only played 29 games last season following knee surgery. Stoudemire is going to be on a minutes limit (20 a game) but the Knicks want those 20 minutes.

Which means this summer, rather than have Stoudemire go work with Hakeem Olajuwon, the Knicks suggested he stay home and just rest, reports Marc Berman at the New York Post.

Stoudemire had planned to return to Texas to refine the post moves he learned last summer….

“The main thing with Amar’e is we need him to rest,’’ Woodson said at the Las Vegas summer league. “Last summer, he put in a lot of time. He had some bad luck because he worked his butt off last summer. This summer we’ll rest him and make our push to get him ready for vet camp.”

If Stoudemire could give the Knicks 15-20 minutes a night as the backup four behind Carmelo Anthony that would be a welcome addition to the roster. Stoudemire is not as explosive as he once was, but he was very efficient last season when he did play, shooting 63.7 percent. That kind of play on a consistent basis would be a boost for New York.

We’ll see if Stoudemire can give that much anymore.

Report: Kings forward Matt Barnes wanted for questioning after alleged New York nightclub fight

Matt Barnes infamously fought then-Knicks coach Derek Fisher for dating Barnes’ estranged wife, Gloria Govan. Barnes even bragged that violence is sometimes the answer.

His self-earned reputation won’t earn him the benefit of the doubt over an incident earlier today.

TMZ:

Sacramento Kings star Matt Barnes is wanted by NYPD for questioning after he allegedly choked a woman inside a nightclub early Monday morning — and TMZ Sports got video of him right after the incident.

Law enforcement sources tell us cops got a 911 call to Avenue Nightclub after midnight, reporting a man assaulting 2 women and another man. We’re told things got physical when Barnes allegedly choked one woman during an argument — and when 2 other people tried to intervene … he punched both of them.

In the video, Matt and a teammate — it appears to be DeMarcus Cousins — are talking about the fight. The teammate is clearly heard saying, “Matt hit the s*** out this ni***!”

Barnes was also arrested for domestic violence against Govan in 2011. But she said the incident was blown out of proportion, and the charges were dropped.

The Kings have already played at the Knicks and Nets, so Sacramento doesn’t return to New York this season.
