Pelicans’ Greivis Vasquez will have surgery on both ankles

If I’d had a vote, Greivis Vasquez would have gotten mine for Most Improved Player award — the third-year guard averaged 13.9 points and 9 assists per game for the then Hornets (now Pelicans) this past season, playing smart basketball along the way for a team that was grooming Anthony Davis and waiting for Eric Gordon to play up to promise (or play at all, for a while).

The Times-Picyune reports Vasquez will have some off-season surgery on his ankles. Both of them.

The surgery, which will occur in Los Angeles, is similar to what starting shooting guard Eric Gordon underwent earlier this month to remove bone spurs in his left ankle. There was no confirmation of Vasquez’s possible recovery time, but El Universal, a newspaper based in Caracas, Venezuela reported that he is expected to be sidelined 12 to 16 weeks. If that’s the case, Vasquez would be fully recovered before training camp begins in October.

This is a pretty minor surgery, there shouldn’t be any impact going forward.

Vasquez sprained both ankles over the course of the season. This should have everything cleaned up and him ready to go next season.

NEW ORLEANS — Russell Westbrook hit 4-of-6 3-pointers in the third quarter.

This one apparently put him on fire to the point he had to cool himself off.

It’s hard to find a new low for defense in an NBA All-Star Game.

But Stephen Curry was laying down on defense. Literally.

The result was a Giannis Antetokounmpo dunk and Curry ending up in the highlight anyway.

Hey, DeAndre Jordan, where was this Saturday night during the Dunk Contest?

The Clippers’ big man threw down an off-the-backboard alley-oop from Russell Westbrook during the All-Star Game Sunday that was better than anything he did on Saturday night. Enjoy
