Orlando Magic v Atlanta Hawks - Game Six

Report: Magic might decide to trade Howard before season

Orlando Magic general manager Otis Smith said he wants to sit down with Dwight Howard and see where his head is. Prudent move. But what if Howard says his head is wanting out of Orlando?

If Howard tells the Magic he is gone, then he might be gone really soon, tweets Marc Stein at ESPN.

A growing number of execs starting to believe that Magic will indeed give strong consideration to doing Dwight deal before season starts

There is some logic here — if you are going to make a move and there is an offer out there you can live with, better to make the move now rather than drag out the pain.

Teams are ready to make their offer — the Nets will offer Brook Lopez, the Lakers a package centered on Andrew Bynum, and there will be a lot more as well. The Magic will want to start rebuilding by getting young players and picks, plus the team that wins the bid is going to have to take back the ugly contract of Hedo Turkoglu. A third team may come in to facilitate.

If it is a trade, you can pretty much rule out the Knicks, they have no assets. But the Magic will not be hurting for offers, and if they are going down this road they are better off avoiding the drama that ripped apart Denver last year.

PBT Extra bold prediction previews: Clippers ready to win West?

With our PBT Extra videos, we are previewing the entire NBA by using bold predictions, starting in the Pacific Division (we already did the Warriors).

Some of those predictions come from fans on Twitter where I had sent out a request, including the bold prediction for the Clippers.

It could happen, they are certainly contenders. But two things need to happen.

The big one is their defense, which was middle of the pack last season, needs to move into the top 10 (and DeAndre Jordan needs to play consistently like a guy who is third in Defensive Player of the Year voting).

Second is the new and improved bench unit of Lance Stephenson, Josh Smith, and Jamal Crawford (he’s not new) need to mesh into a unit. Those are three guys who like to create for themselves and make questionable shot choices, getting them play well with others could be a bumpy road.

Stephen Curry said the defending-champion Warriors would have no problem picking up where they left off.

His swagger certainly remains intact.
